5 Virtual trips you’ll love…on your couch or by the pool

You’ve heard of beach reads, right? This summer, instead of that fluffy novel that leaves you feeling like you’ve wasted your time, how about taking a virtual trip with a book or a video you can stream? Here are some of my favorites!

Favorite books and shows to feel like you're on a virtual trip

1. A Year in Provence by Peter Mayle: An oldie for sure, but what a great way to transport yourself to France!

2. Under the Tuscan Sun: the book by Frances Mayes and the film starring Diane Lane. Read the book first and then watch the film. Boy, are they different! Try it to see what I mean. Either way, you’ll want to book a trip to Cortona, as I did, and see why this is such an enchanting town.

3. In a Sunburned Country by Bill Bryson: All about Australia, from its history (did you know not all of the immigrants were former British convicts?) to travel writer Bryson’s witty tale of his trip across the country.

4. Searching for Italy: CNN’s series hosted by actor Stanley Tucci, a first-generation American. If you like Tucci’s acting, you’ll really love him in real life, visiting various regions in Italy. He visits the most wonderful restaurants and food producers, showcasing amazing cooking. This really makes you want to book a trip there…NOW!

5. Vicky Cristina Barcelona: a 2008 Woody Allen classic stars Scarlett Johansson, Penelope Cruz, Rebecca Hall, Javier Bardem and others, taking you on a journey of Barcelona by three very different women. Drama and sites, with that ironic humor thrown in for good measure.

Enjoy! If you’re not traveling IRL, then at least you can do so by book or screen! I'd love to hear what books you love reading or shows you love binging that make you want to travel. Send me an email on gail@wineloverstravel.com so we can add it to the list!
